XCIPTV Setup: Install, Log In and Fix Playback

XCIPTV setup in plain steps: install the official app on Android TV or Fire TV, log in with Xtream Codes or M3U, then fix playback and the TV guide.

XCIPTV setup comes down to four steps: get login details from an IPTV provider, install the official XCIPTV PLAYER app from Google Play (on Fire TV, check the Amazon Appstore), pick the login type that matches your provider’s email, and sign in.

The rest of this guide covers the two checks that decide whether it plays well: which built-in player to use, and how to get the TV guide to load.

What You Need Before XCIPTV Setup

XCIPTV is a player, not a TV service. The official XCIPTV PLAYER listing on Google Play says the app “does not supply or include any media or content” and that users must provide their own. The developer, Ottrun, says the same thing about all of its players.

So when you open the app for the first time, it is empty until you sign in with a provider’s account.

That account usually comes as an email with one of two things in it:

  • a username, a password and a server address, or
  • a single long link, called an M3U link.

PlayTVX states that it sends credentials and setup instructions by email right after checkout on its IPTV subscription plans page. Other providers work the same way, so keep that email open on your phone while you set up the app.

You also need a compatible device and a steady connection:

  • Device: an Android TV or Google TV box, an Android phone or tablet, or an Amazon Fire TV device.
  • Connection: PlayTVX advises at least 15 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps or more for 4K. If you are not sure what you have, check how fast your internet needs to be for IPTV before you blame the app.

Finding the Real XCIPTV App

The official app is called XCIPTV PLAYER, and its developer is Ottrun. On Google Play it is listed for Android TV, Android phones and Android tablets. It has more than 10 million downloads and a 4.0-star rating from about 33,100 reviews. The listing also notes that the app contains ads, and its last update was on August 12, 2026.

Before you tap Install, check that the developer name under the app title says Ottrun. Several apps with “XCIPTV” in the name exist on the iPhone App Store, and they come from other developers. At least one of them is a movie-guide app that cannot play anything. Ottrun does not list an iOS version of XCIPTV.

Your provider may also send you its own app instead. Ottrun builds white-label apps that providers publish “under your own developer account”, according to its website. That is why a provider’s branded app can look exactly like XCIPTV, with a different name and logo. If that is what you received, the screens and settings in this guide usually still apply.

How Do You Install XCIPTV on Android TV and Fire TV?

Remote and streaming stick used during XCIPTV setup on a TV
On a Fire TV Stick, the first step is checking the Appstore on the device itself.

On Android TV, Google TV, phones and tablets, install XCIPTV PLAYER from Google Play. That is the whole step. Search for XCIPTV, confirm that Ottrun is the developer, and tap Install. If you are still choosing a box, our page on IPTV on Android TV covers what to look for.

On Fire TV, search the Amazon Appstore on your own device. Store listings change, so check the current result on your stick. If XCIPTV is not listed for your model, pick a player the Appstore does list (our player comparison shows the options) or use an Android TV or Google TV device, where XCIPTV comes from Google Play.

On Android phones, tablets and Android TV, install only from Google Play. Keep Google Play Protect switched on, because it checks apps for harmful behavior. Skip any site offering a “modded” or “pro” copy.

Here is the quick version for each device:

Device Where to get XCIPTV If it is not there
Android TV or Google TV box Google Play (XCIPTV PLAYER by Ottrun) Check the developer name says Ottrun
Android phone or tablet Google Play (XCIPTV PLAYER by Ottrun) Check the developer name says Ottrun
Fire TV Stick, Cube or Fire TV smart TV Search the Amazon Appstore on the device Choose a player the Appstore lists
iPhone or iPad No official app from Ottrun Use a different iOS player

Choosing Your Login Type: Xtream Codes, M3U URL or EZServer

The XCIPTV listing on Google Play names three ways to log in: the Xtream Codes compatible API, M3U URL, and EZHometech’s EZServer. You do not choose one by preference. You choose the one that matches what your provider’s email contains.

Login type What your provider sends What loads When to use it
Xtream Codes API A username, a password and a server URL Channels and the TV guide, plus movies and series if the provider includes them Whenever your email has all three details
M3U URL One long link Channels, and the guide when the provider supplies one When the link is all you were given
EZServer (EZHometech) Details for an EZServer login Channels and the TV guide Only when your provider tells you to use it

Yes, you can use an M3U link in XCIPTV, since M3U URL is one of the three listed login types.

When a provider offers both options, though, Xtream Codes is usually the better pick. One login brings in the channel list, the guide and the on-demand sections together, so there is less to set up and less to go wrong. For the full difference between the two, read our guide to M3U vs Xtream Codes.

Logging In to XCIPTV for the First Time

With the email open and the app installed, the login takes a few minutes:

  1. Open XCIPTV PLAYER.
  2. Allow the permissions the app asks for.
  3. Choose the login type that matches your email: Xtream Codes, M3U URL or EZServer.
  4. Type any name you like for the profile, such as “Living room”.
  5. Enter the username, the password and the server URL, or paste the M3U link.
  6. Select Sign in.
  7. Wait while the app loads live TV, movies and series. A large list takes longer on this first load.

The server URL is the server address exactly as your provider’s email gives it. Copy it and paste it rather than retyping it. One wrong character, or a space at the end, is enough to make the login fail.

If your TV remote makes pasting awkward, set up XCIPTV on an Android phone first. Then use the backup feature described further down to move the profile to the TV.

Switching Between ExoPlayer and VLC When a Channel Stutters

Viewer testing playback on a TV after XCIPTV setup
If one channel misbehaves and the rest play fine, try the other built-in player.

XCIPTV ships with two built-in video players, ExoPlayer and VLC, according to its Google Play listing. You do not need to install a separate player app. Each one handles video streams in its own way, so a channel that struggles in one can play cleanly in the other.

Try switching players when:

  • a channel shows a black screen while others work,
  • you get a picture with no sound, or
  • one channel stutters or freezes while the rest play smoothly.

To switch, open the app’s Settings and look for the player option. Pick the player you are not using, go back, and play the same channel again. If it now plays well, leave it on that player.

If every channel stutters with both players, the problem is probably your connection or the provider, and the checklist at the end of this guide is the next step.

Getting the TV Guide to Load

The TV guide, also called the EPG (electronic program guide), works with all three login types according to the XCIPTV listing. The guide data comes from your provider, not from the app. XCIPTV only downloads and displays it.

That is why the guide is often empty right after your first login. Give it a few minutes, then refresh or reload the EPG from inside the app. On a long channel list, the guide can take longer to fill than the channels themselves.

If it stays empty, check your login type first. An M3U link with no guide link attached gives the app less to work with than an Xtream Codes login. After that, our guide to fixing an IPTV guide that will not load goes through the remaining causes one by one.

The guide view also lets you set program reminders and, where available, watch catch-up TV. Catch-up only works if your provider supports it for that channel.

Backing Up Your Setup for a Second Device

The XCIPTV listing includes backup and restore with sync across multiple devices. In practice, this saves you from typing the same login twice. Once your XCIPTV setup is the way you like it, with the profile, favorites and player choice in place, make a backup. Then install XCIPTV on your second Android device and restore from that backup instead of starting from scratch.

A second device restores your backup instead of repeating the login.

The listing also mentions scheduled recording (DVR) to internal or external storage. Recording needs free space on the device and support from your provider, so treat it as a bonus rather than something to count on.

One caveat: how many devices can play at the same time depends on your provider’s plan, not on XCIPTV. Check your plan before you set up a second screen.

When XCIPTV Is Not Working: A Quick Checklist

Work through these in order. Most problems are solved by the first three.

  1. Login failed: check the username, password and server URL against the email. Copy and paste them again rather than retyping.
  2. Account not active: a new account may not be live yet, and an old one may have expired. Ask your provider.
  3. Wrong login type: an Xtream Codes login entered as M3U, or the reverse, will not work. Match the type to the email.
  4. Server down: if your details were working yesterday, the provider’s server may be busy or under maintenance. Wait a little and try again.
  5. One channel stutters: switch between ExoPlayer and VLC, as described above.
  6. Every channel stutters: run a speed test and compare it with how fast your internet needs to be for IPTV. Then follow our steps to fix IPTV buffering and freezing.
  7. Empty guide: refresh the EPG, check the login type, then use the guide-fixing steps linked above.

More Questions About Setting Up XCIPTV

Is XCIPTV available on iPhone?

XCIPTV is not available on iPhone from its developer: Ottrun’s official XCIPTV PLAYER listing is for Android TV, Android phones and Android tablets only. Apps with “XCIPTV” in the name on the App Store come from other developers, so check the developer name before installing anything. For alternatives, see our list of IPTV players for iPhone and iPad.

Does XCIPTV work on Roku TV?

XCIPTV is not listed for Roku by its developer. The official Google Play listing names Android TV, Android phones and Android tablets as the supported devices. On a Roku, you would need a different player that your provider supports.

Is XCIPTV free?

The XCIPTV PLAYER app is free to download from Google Play, and its listing notes that it contains ads. The app itself includes no channels or content. What you watch comes from an IPTV provider’s login, which is usually a paid subscription.

Can XCIPTV record shows?

XCIPTV’s Google Play listing includes scheduled recording (DVR) to internal or external storage. Whether recording works for a given channel depends on your provider and on free storage space on your device. Check with your provider before relying on it.

Which is better, IPTV Smarters or XCIPTV?

Neither IPTV Smarters nor XCIPTV is better for everyone: the right choice depends on your device and how you like the screens laid out. XCIPTV stands out for its two built-in players and its backup and restore. Our side-by-side look at how XCIPTV compares with TiviMate and IPTV Smarters goes through the differences.
